Do Japanese People Eat Sushi Every Day ?
When I travel to another country, people immidiatelty associate me with sushi. Most asked question to me would be " do you eat sushi everyday?" Answer to the question is no. I probably eat pasta more than I eat sushi.
Traditionally, sushi is considered a luxurious food that's only eaten in a special occasion. Untill there were Kaiten-zushi (Sushi seved on belt conveier) , it was quite difficult to get sushi at a reasonal price. Now that we can get a plate for 100 yen + taxt, we can eat sushi as much as we eat fast food or family restaurant food in Japan.
In fact, when I first arrived in Canada I was surprised by how much people it sushi there. Though sushi style is quite different from Japanese autehtic ones, it is served even in the cafe on university campus.
In Japan, supermarket, sushi restaurants and department stores sell sushi but you will find more italian restaurants than sushi restaurant. I was asked if I eat sushi regularly for breakfast, lunch and dinner once. I must say no. I don't even have sushi every week. Maybe once in two month or less than that. Sushi is not quite a sandwich of Japan and although some eat sushi at home. I guess our sandwich substitute with rice would be onigiri which I will discuss about it later on.
